Quick Answer
The University of East London does not publish an acceptance rate, and no British source ranks for the phrase. What it does publish, on the course page and in plain numbers, is three different entry bars: 112 UCAS points as standard, 96 with a contextual offer, and 64 with a foundation year. Very few universities put the contextual figure in public like that.
- Typical entry: 112 UCAS points, or 96 with a contextual offer, on BSc Psychology
- Overall position: 96th of 130 (Complete University Guide 2027)
- Student satisfaction: 82%, and that is 5th of 130 in the UK
- Students per staff member: 22.4, which is 127th of 130
- International tuition: £16,020 a year for 2026 entry
- Campuses: Docklands, Stratford and University Square Stratford, with free buses between them

The University of East London is a post-1992 university in the Royal Docks and Stratford, and it is one of the most straightforward universities in this guide to work out, because it publishes more of its own numbers than most. This page is part of our guide to the best UK universities.
It is also a university with an unusually wide spread in its own results, and the spread is the thing worth understanding before you apply. Everything below is read from the university's own pages and from the Complete University Guide, with the date each was read.

What is the University of East London acceptance rate?
There is no published figure. We searched the phrase and read the results: eight sites rank for it and every one is an overseas agency or a student housing aggregator. Not one British source appears, and neither does the university. Whatever numbers those pages carry, they are not coming from East London.
What the university does publish is far more useful to an applicant, because it is the actual gate. On BSc (Hons) Psychology the course page prints three separate requirements: 112 UCAS points as the standard advertised requirement, 96 UCAS points with a contextual offer, and 64 UCAS points with a foundation year.
The middle one is the interesting one. A contextual offer is a reduced requirement based on personal, educational or socioeconomic background, and most universities that make them are vague about the size of the reduction. East London prints it: sixteen UCAS points, which is roughly two grades. If your grades are near the line, that is a real and checkable difference rather than a hint.
Where does the University of East London rank?
96th of 130 in the Complete University Guide for 2027, on 516 points out of 1,000. As with most of the London post-1992 universities, that single number hides a spread wide enough to be misleading on its own.

Complete University Guide 2027 profile, read 8 September 2026.
East London is fifth in the United Kingdom for student satisfaction, and its own site makes a related claim, that it was 4th in England for overall positivity in the 2025 National Student Survey. It is also 127th of 130 for students per staff member, at 22.4, and 122nd for what it spends on academic services.
Those two things sitting together is the honest picture: students rate the place very highly while it runs one of the leanest staffing ratios in the country. Its graduate outcomes, at 72nd, are the strongest of the London post-1992 universities we have looked at, and considerably better than the University of West London, which sits at 113th on the same measure.
Which campus will you be on?
All of them are in east London, which makes this simpler than at several of its neighbours. In the university's own words it has three main campuses, Docklands, Stratford and USS (University Square Stratford)
, with free buses to move between the campuses
and two libraries open around the clock.
Docklands is the one people picture: a purpose-built waterside campus on the Royal Albert Dock, next to London City Airport, with the student residences standing directly on the quay. Stratford is the older site, in a part of London transformed by the 2012 Olympic Park and now one of the better connected places in the city. University Square Stratford is a newer shared building nearby.
Unlike some universities in this guide, none of these is outside London and none is a surprise. Check which one your course is taught at, because the two sites are a bus ride apart rather than a walk.
What are the entry requirements at the University of East London?
Set per course, and published on each course page in three tiers. Taking BSc (Hons) Psychology as the worked example.
| Route | UCAS points | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Degree | 112 | The standard advertised requirement for most applicants |
| Degree with contextual offer | 96 | A reduced offer based on personal, educational or socioeconomic background |
| Degree with foundation year | 64 | A four year route that begins with a foundation year |

112 points is consistent with the Complete University Guide scoring its entry standards at 108 out of 208. The foundation year route at 64 points matters for international applicants whose school qualifications do not map cleanly onto A levels, because it is a published, four year way in rather than a discretionary one.
What does the University of East London cost an international student?
East London publishes a single central figure, which is more than several of its neighbours do. Its fees page states that undergraduate tuition for new international students starting in 2026 is £16,020 per year full time, with the UK fee at £9,790. It adds that fees for some courses may vary and to check the course page.
That is the lowest international undergraduate fee of the London universities in this guide so far, and by a clear margin over most of the capital. The university also runs an International Progression Fund of up to £1,000 towards course related costs, and a travel fund for international students living outside London travel zones 1 to 9 who face a long commute.

What is the University of East London known for?
Psychology is the subject that shows up most strongly in what people search for alongside the university's name, followed by business, law, computing and education. It also runs a large teacher training operation and a sports provision built around the Docklands site, which the university calls its sports dock and offers to students with free gym membership.
What it is best known for in the sector, though, is who it teaches. East London draws heavily from one of the most diverse parts of the country, and its published contextual offer, its foundation year route and its facilities spend at 31st of 130 all point the same way: an institution built around widening access rather than around selectivity.
Its research position is modest, at 104th for research quality, and its academic services spend is 122nd. If you are weighing a research degree rather than an undergraduate one, weigh that.
Elizabeth's view
East London is a straightforward recommendation for a particular kind of student, and I would rather say who than pretend it suits everyone. It is fifth in the country for student satisfaction, its graduate outcomes are the best of the London post-92 universities I have looked at this week, and its fee is the lowest. If you want London, a real campus by the water, and a published route in that does not depend on perfect grades, it is a serious option and the numbers back that up.
What I would want you to see clearly is the staffing. 22.4 students per member of staff is 127th of 130, and that is not a detail. It shapes how much individual attention you get, how quickly work comes back, and how easy it is to be known by name in a department. Students there evidently feel well looked after anyway, which says something good about the place. But go in knowing you will need to ask for help rather than wait to be noticed.
What is it like to live in east London as a student?
Cheaper than most of the capital, and better connected than its reputation suggests. The Docklands campus sits on the Royal Albert Dock with the DLR running along it, and Stratford is one of the busiest interchanges in the country, with the Elizabeth line, the Jubilee line, the Central line, the Overground and mainline trains all meeting there. From Stratford you are about twenty minutes from the centre of London.
The area itself has changed more in the last fifteen years than almost anywhere else in Britain. The 2012 Olympic Park is on Stratford's doorstep, along with the parkland, the aquatics centre and one of Europe's larger shopping centres. Around Docklands the setting is quieter and more open, built around water, with London City Airport across the dock.
Rents in the east are generally lower than in central or west London, though they are not low in absolute terms and they have risen. The university's own travel fund for international students living outside travel zones 1 to 9 is a fair signal that some of its students commute a long way to keep housing costs down. We have not printed rent figures here, because hall prices change each year and we would rather give you the numbers for the year you are actually going. Ask us and we will get them.
