The campus

Where is Leeds Beckett University, and what is it like?

Leeds Beckett is in Leeds, West Yorkshire, and it teaches on two separate campuses. City Campus is in the city centre on Woodhouse Lane. Headingley Campus is at Beckett Park, in the Headingley suburb to the north west of the centre.

It is a large university, in the 15,001 to 25,000 student band, and 18% of its students are international. About 73% are undergraduates and 27% postgraduates. Its roots go back to the Leeds Mechanics Institute of 1824.

Which campus your course uses matters, because the two are a different commute and a different neighbourhood. Computer Science is taught at Headingley, for instance, while Business, Psychology and International Relations are at City Campus. If you want to be in the middle of a big city. City Campus suits you well.

Rankings

Is Leeds Beckett University good?

It depends on your subject more than on the university as a whole. The Complete University Guide 2027 ranks Leeds Beckett 86th of 130, yet its subject tables place it 4th of 30 for Health Studies, 5th of 53 for Tourism, Transport, Travel and Heritage Studies and 10th of 19 for Speech and Language Therapy.

The overall position averages ten measures across the whole institution, so its strongest subjects are averaged with others that rank lower. Sports Science, for example, is 34th in its table. You do not apply to an average, so look up the table for your own course.

Facilities spend is the standout, at 38th. The weakest measure is entry standards, which records the UCAS points entrants held. That measures how selective a university is, not how well it teaches, and for a student with middling grades it is good news.
