Applying for foundation degrees

What is a foundation degree?

Some students want to study for an undergraduate degree, may meet the university entry requirements to enter directly onto a degree course. In this situation applying for a foundation degree or access course can be a great way of accessing higher education in countries around the world. There are many options available to you that will allow you to get on the right degree course for you. Start dates vary, with foundation degrees and access courses starting in January, April and September.

We can help you find the foundation degree or access course at the best location for you, identifying different foundation degree progression routes or alternative pathways. This is essential to consider, as some courses offer integrated foundation degree options requiring a 40% pass rate, whereas others require a 70% pass rate, to guarantee you a place on one of their full degree programmes.

Foundation degree pathways

Gaining entry on foundation degree and pathway options requires you to attain a certain proficiency in English language, usually through an IELTS test (or an equivalent qualification) of around 4.5 – 5.5 as an overall score. We can advise on the exact academic entry requirements and can help you find an intensive IELTS preparation course if you need to improve your skills.

Foundation degree options usually require you to submit a personal statement, outlining your skills and enthusiasm for studying that particular course in the UK. We will help you prepare a strong personal statement, and can guide you on other university entry requirements, such as obtaining references and booking to attend open days.
