What can Spain offer students

Spain offers students the opportunity to study in a culturally rich and historic environment. With beautiful coastal towns, vibrant multi-cultural cities and a warm Mediterranean climate, Spain has a lot to offer. The Higher Education system in Spain is well established and highly regarded. 38 Spanish universities are represented within the Times Higher Education World University Ranking 2019, with those in Madrid and Barcelona performing particularly well.

There are a wide range of courses taught in English both at Undergraduate and Postgraduate level. With the second most widely spoken dialect in the world, it also offers students the chance to learn a second language. A valuable addition to any graduate CV.

Study cost

Tuition fees in Spain are subsidised by the Spanish government, keeping them considerably lower than those in the USA, Australia and the UK. Students can expect to pay between £400 and £1,000 per year depending on the course and location. The cost of accommodation and consumer goods are generally lower than other European countries so Spain can also offer students a lower cost of living. For example a 1 bedroom flat for example would cost between £250 to £350 per month. Some students take accommodation on campus or with a local family homestay to reduce rental costs even further.

After graduation

Unemployment figures in Spain are dropping but still remain relatively high in comparison with other European countries. However, there are numerous graduate employment programmes available for those that wish to stay in the country. Most of these can be found in the major Cities of Barcelona and Madrid. Industries currently performing well and therefore offering the most opportunity range from IT, Finance, Education and Consultancy.
