What can Australia offer students?
Australia has the third highest number of international students in the world behind only the United Kingdom and the United States despite having a population of just 23 million. This is largely due to the excellent standard of education, something that is recognised on a global scale. There are currently 5 Australian Universities placed in the top 50 of the QS world rankings, with engineering and technology, medicine, environmental science, and accounting and finance the highest performing disciplines. It is also a country with a rich blend of cultural diversity and language - 47% of Australians were either born or have parents that were born overseas. With buzzing cities like Melbourne and Sydney alongside the outstanding natural beauty of the coastline and 17 UNSECO world heritage sites on offer, it is east to see why students choose Australia.
Tuition fees in Australia cost between £10,000 to £15,000 per year depending on the what and where you study. Some students take accommodation on campus or with a local family homestay as a way to reduce their rental costs. Although many students will take on some part time work to help fund their studies, the Australian Department of Home Affairs does have financial requirements that you must meet in order to receive your student visa. From 1st February 2018 the 12 month living cost has been set at £11,000.
Many students go on to further study after completing their initial degree and Australia offers a wide range of Masters and Post Doctoral Research programmes. Those that wish to stay in the country to work will find a buoyant employment market. Australia has had 20 years of consistent economic growth and there is a real demand for graduates in engineering, science, medicine and teaching. Regardless of where you choose to start your career, you can be confident that the qualifications gained during your time at University here will be internationally recognised and sought after.
