Art and Design University Applications

University application support for art and design foundation diploma courses and undergraduate degrees

What art and design degree choices are available?

Whilst the majority of our students who want to apply for art and design degree courses start through undertaking an art and design foundation diploma, there are options to apply straight to art and design degree courses if your art portfolio is of a high enough standard.

Our art and design specialists can help you decide which route is right for you. They will work with you to review your art and design portfolio, and identify the most appropriate route and degree course.

As part of your application to study art and design, you will be expected to submit a diverse portfolio of your art and design work. Submitting a successful art portfolio requires specialist advice to ensure you both display the diversity of your work, and that it is presented in the correct format. This is particularly important for international students who are required to submit a digital art portfolio.

Securing your art and design place

We will review your portfolio and, where required, support you in developing it further to ensure it complements a winning application. Most of our students want support in applying to study art and design courses throughout the whole process. However, we can also provide bespoke mentoring programmes to help you develop your art portfolio, either if the wider application support is not required, or if more in-depth support is needed to develop the art portfolio prior to application.

Some of our students will apply for both art foundation diploma courses and degrees, and we can support you with both options. It is important if you undertake an art and design foundation diploma, that you consider your longer-term progression on to an art and design degree course. Our specialists will help you do this, by helping you to map out your academic journey.

Art and design, fashion and wider creative industries courses are often highly competitive. In addition to your well prepared art portfolio, submitting an excellent personal statement which demonstrates your knowledge and understanding of art and design is essential. We can guide you through this process and help you acquire a suitable school reference, as well as booking you on open days so you can look around different universities.

Our specialist art and design application support is delivered as a part of our undergraduate degree university application support service. If you would like to find out more please contact us to speak to one of our advisers.
