Likely implications Coronavirus student teaching methods

25th January 2021 By Dr Elizabeth Adey Leave a Comment

Students starting in September 2021 in UK universities

At present we know universities in the UK are currently teaching online as a result of high levels of Coronavirus in student populations. This move was made to help control the spread of Covid 19 in the UK. The same has happened across the world.

With reductions in infection rates of coronavirus students should see a return to face to face teaching this September in the UK

The other fact we know is that the UK has vaccinated more people than other European countries at present. The roll out of the vaccine programme will undoubtedly see a transition back to normal life, including face to face teaching at universities. With high numbers of cases of coronavirus students in the UK will continue online teaching into February 2021.

By September 2021, the vaccine programme in the UK will have protected most of the adult population in the UK against catching Covid 19. It is expected that this will allow universities transition back to face-to-face teaching for the new intake of students starting in September 2021.

We have spoken to a number of universities in other countries. At present, with concerns of Coronavirus student transmission, whether teaching will continue online or move back to being delivered in person, largely depends on the efficiency of the government in-country at rolling out the vaccine programme. The roll out of the vaccine programme is inevitably the key to helping things transition back to normal life.

What will happen in other countries? Will teaching be in person or online?

We hope students are not feeling anxious about the current situation and have heard very positive reports of how universities are delivering interactive online learning sessions to students. We also encourage students to apply as early as possible for September 2021 to avoid a last minute rush for places at universities. Summer 2020 was very busy with last minute applicants to UK universities and we believe summer 2021 will we even busier, as Coronavirus student and overall population infection rates come under control in the UK with the vaccine programme rollout. So please don’t leave applying until last minute as you will need time to arrange your visa.

We are happy to speak to you and provide further advice on teaching methods at universities as we move towards the September 2021 intake. The situation is constantly changing and we can advise on how we see the situation changing as we move closer to September.
