Pablo Scarpati

BSc Computer Science degree, Swansea University

Whilst Pablo was clear he wanted to study an IT degree. Like most of the students we support, choosing from the wide variety of courses and universities was a daunting task. We worked with Pablo to match both his academic aspirations with a university environment and computer science degree where he would flourish.

We were really pleased when all the hard work paid off and Pablo secured his place on a highly ranked IT degree course at Swansea University. Swansea perfectly matched Pablo's requirements, providing the academic rigour and a great environment to study. Swansea is a lively university town. With the Gower Peninsular, the UK's first designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, just a short bus ride away.

Do you have any advice for our students to help them make the big decision of what to study and which University to apply to?

While deciding what to study, you should look at what you are passionate about and what career you see yourself following. Once you have established that, you should do research on each university to understand which one would be the best for you and your career goals. It is easy to think that this is a key decision of your life, a thought that can often lead towards stress and panic. It is a big decision and you should always aim for the best. But if you realize that you made a mistake, there are always ways to fix that. Uni Direct was able to find universities that could have been suitable for me. Which made the whole process of deciding which university to apply to much easier.

How has your choice of an IT degree been determined by your career aims?

I chose to study a IT degree because I am very interested in software development and it is a subject that I enjoy studying. I am also considering the possibility of becoming an entrepreneur and starting my own business. The knowledge and problem-solving skills you get on a computer science degree will be incredibly useful in achieving that goal. Furthermore, Computer Science is a field that is constantly growing and it would be hard not to find opportunities for improvement and professional growth.

How did you find the support you received from Uni Direct?

I don’t think that I would have been able to find a university and a course that were perfect for my career goals without the help and support of Uni Direct. With the help and advice provided by Uni Direct, I was able to make sure that I was following the right path and making the right decisions. Their backing made the application process much smoother than it would have been if I had done it on my own.
